Singer 114w103 Cornely Type Chainstitch Sewing Machine
An exceptional example of an early 1927-28 Singer 114w103 chainstitch embroidery machine. It has been carefully fine tuned, oiled, and tested in a wide variety of thread types and textiles (including heavy canvas, wool felts, and light leather through it to ensure that it will create consistent high quality work. Everything on this machine is very smooth and accurate and produces great moss stitches (chenille stitch) as well as the classic chainstitch in a variety of sizes.
This machine (serial number W504046) was built, operated, and serviced in the USA and has never been overseas or been subjected to cheap aftermarket parts from overseas (read my article on issues with overseas machines and parts here). It was lovingly owned by a small embroidery business in the Midwest which upgraded to computerized machines when its 87 year-old operator finally decided to retire. Included is a rare Singer hook knife, a set of nipples (#5, #6, #7 and matching needles), an original nipple wrench, as well as many more accessories you’ll need to get started (see list below)! This machine does not include a table and motor, but if you are looking for a complete starter package I do have nice vintage table sets (+250) available which have been prepared to fit our excellent modern servo motors ($129). For the best control and power through heavier fabrics, this is the setup I personally use and recommend to my friends in the chainstitch community. I can also offer additional nipples and needle sets dependent on your needs, just send me a message.
In addition, I will include a printed and digital copies of the original owners manual and parts manual as well as a collection of scanned training books from the golden years of chainstitching. Some of these were scanned in-house and are actually quite rare! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Note on Setup:
I will offer an initial support phone call with your purchase to help get the machine properly setup. I also recommend joining the Singer & Cornely Specialty Art Machines group on Facebook, there is a treasure trove of information and many senior community members there who are a big help to those getting their start with hand crank chainstitch machines.
Note on vintage machines:
The Singer 114w103 is a marvel of a sewing maching which will continue to perform well in industrial settings for generations if maintained properly. These machines were made as early as 1911, so the machine you receive will likely have already sewn many artworks and emblems over the course of its life. As such, there will inevitably be signs of use present on the machine. I’ve always strongly preferred the machines that have a patina which reveal their unique histories… Rubbing marks, scratches, brassing of the hardware –These qualities are much more beautiful and authentic than a machine that has been repainted and with a fresh logo. Some of the machines I stock have actually made flags and uniforms for Chicago’s Wrigley Field before the Great Depression, and produced the back patches for notorious motorcycle gangs in the Milwaukee and Chicago areas. All machines have been carefully cleaned, tuned, and tested. I have supplied machines to some very inspiring artists and fashion houses and stand by the machines I sell. I try my best to take very clear photographs in good lighting, so you will know exactly what you are getting, cosmetically, before your purchase. Please feel free to contact me with any questions!
